Explore Nha Trang’s Legacy In The Ancient House

The Khanh Hoa Province has always been full of surprises; the same goes for the Dien Khanh District. For example, if you’re looking for something that combines history with the modern-day world, the Ancient House will be right up your alley. This centuries-old house is now a museum.

Every single tourist can visit it to learn more about Nha Trang’s past, the traditions and customs of the locals, and to take some amazing selfies. Also known as the Old House of Mr. Hai Thai, it’s located in the Suoi Tien Commune and won’t be hard to find on the map. It’s pretty big – up to 300 square meters.

Around back, you’ll find a swimming pull, lots of exotic trees, and an “ancient” atmosphere. It was built a hundred years ago – in 1920, to be exact, and still looks like a million bucks. A quick note: this isn’t the only old house in the area. In fact, the Khanh Hoa Province is full of historical buildings like the Ancient House, and some of them are even older.

However, they’re not as popular. But let’s get back to the topic. Over the years, this complex has been used by the owners as their home, and then it was abandoned, turned into a school, and abandoned once again. So, what can an average tourist see there today?

What You Need To Know About The Ancient House In Nha Trang

Thankfully, when the Yasaka Saigon Nha Trang Corporation took over, they rebuilt the house and turned it into a tourist site. Right now, there are 5 big rooms, a number of tiny bedrooms and even a verandah like in the old days. The swimming pool I mentioned earlier is quite impressive. The people that run the place make sure that it’s nice and clean.

There are several smaller wooden houses where the guests can have something to eat, relax, and have a good time. And while the snacks and drinks are ok, if you want something more “meaningful” to eat, you’ll have to drive for a couple of kilometers to reach the closest restaurant.

The staff at the Ancient House is very friendly and professional. Sadly, they don’t speak English. The good news is – even though this place has a great historical value and is, overall, quite alright, it’s not that popular among the locals. That means you’ll get the entire place to yourself when you visit!

You can stay in one of the rooms, and that won’t cost more than 3 US dollars; there’s an entrance fee: 1-2 US dollars. The entire complex is 18000 square kilometers, enough to walk around and enjoy the views.

How To Find the Ancient House In Nha Trang

This is a beautiful place in the country, perfect for getting away from the noisy city and finding some peace and quiet. As mentioned in the beginning, the Ancient House is located in the Khanh Hoa Province, the Dien Khanh District. It’s approximately 30 kilometers away from Nha Trang, and on a slow day, you’ll be able to reach the destination in less than one hour.

As always, you can choose between a taxi, a bike, and a car. Buses don’t usually go in that direction; besides, they are slow and cramped up. A taxi would be the best pick, as you can leave all the planning and driving to the driver.

A bike would be a great choice if you’re traveling alone and want to check out the wonderful Vietnamese landscapes while in Nha Trang.

Nature here is, indeed, breathtakingly beautiful, and you’ll be able to fully experience it all while behind the wheel. Tourists that travel in groups might want to consider renting a car and riding into the sunset together.

Even though it's called the "Ancient House", it's very modernized right now and we had a good time exploring the complex, the district, and even renting a room for the night.

If you're in Nha Trang, the ride will be very long. I was in the back seat, and my friends were driving, but if you want to be full of energy upon arrival, it would be best to call a taxi.
